Your doctor may prescribe candesartan if you have already tried taking other blood pressure drugs such as ramipril or lisinopril but had to discontinue them because of side effects such as severe dry cough. To make sure that the anti-hypertensive agent is safe for you, do tell your doctor if you have diabetes, low blood pressure, severe liver disease, diarrhoea, history of allergic reactions, or kidney diseases. Excessive alcohol consumption can increase the risk of developing hypotension and you may feel dizzy or lightheaded.

The main side effects of Atacand 16mg include headache, dizziness, and flu-like symptoms. These side effects are usually mild and stay for a shorter period.  If you get severe diarrhoea accompanied by vomiting, tell your doctor straight away. You may need to take them until the time you feel better. Serious side effects happen rarely but some people develop, and it is important to take immediate medical help in case you develop them. Call your doctor if you have signs of bone marrow disorder, yellowing of the skin, weakness, irregular heartbeat, or muscle cramps.

Your doctor may ask you to take Atacand 16mg tablet once a day. Do not miss a dose, use it consistently for best results. Take it before or after consuming food. The dose usually depends on the age and condition of the patient. People with kidney problems require dose adjustment. After a few days of prescribing Candesartan, your doctor will check your blood pressure and discuss the side effects of the drug. You must inform your doctor if you develop any side effects associated with the use of blood pressure medicine. If the drug causes a significant reduction in your blood pressure, your doctor may change your dose. People suffering from high blood pressure do not show symptoms, so it is important to keep on taking the drug even if you feel well.
