Description
Enapril 2.5 mg is prescribed to treat hypertension in adults and children older than one month to reduce blood pressure. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of fatal and nonfatal cardiovascular events, primarily heart attacks and strokes. It is also prescribed for the treatment of patients with heart failure. It decreases the rate of development of overt heart failure and reduces hospitalization for patients with heart failure.
Controlling high blood pressure should be a part of comprehensive cardiovascular risk management, including, as appropriate, diabetes management, lipid control, antithrombotic therapy, smoking cessation, exercise, and limited sodium intake. Many patients require more than one medication to achieve blood pressure goals. Elevated blood pressure causes increased cardiovascular risk; in such cases, reduction of severe hypertension can provide substantial benefits.
