Description
Eptoin 100 mg is an anticonvulsant drug containing the active ingredient Phenytoin, which helps to control or prevent seizures that begin after surgery. Your doctor may prescribe this drug in combination with other seizure medications. Phenytoin controls seizures due to abnormal electrical activity in the brain. These seizures may be the result of neurological disease or post neurosurgery.

You should not use Eptoin 100 mg if you are allergic to the active ingredient Phenytoin or other inactive ingredients of the medicines. If you are pregnant, do not take this anticonvulsant drug unless your doctor tells you to. The drug may cause harm to your baby inside your womb. If you become pregnant in between the treatment, do not discontinue the treatment because doing so may increase the risk of seizures. You should immediately inform your doctor if this anti-convulsant drug doesn’t seem to work in controlling your seizures. Do not discontinue the drug without discussing it with your doctor, even if you feel fine. Sudden discontinuation of a dug may make you prone to seizures. Side Effects
Get immediate medical help if you have signs of allergic reactions to Phenytoin. The symptoms include trouble breathing, hives, swelling of the face, lips, or throat. The symptoms of a severe allergic reaction are, burning in your eyes, sore throat, fever, red or purple skin rash that progress to blistering and peeling of the skin. Seek immediate medical help if you experience a serious drug reaction that can have a bad impact on any part of your body. Symptoms may include swollen glands, severe weakness, fever, skin rash, muscle aches, yellowing of the skin, and unusual bruising. Inform your doctor about in case of worsening of symptoms such as anxiety, irritability, restlessness, panic attacks, hyperactivity. trouble sleeping, more depressed, hostile, or mood changes.
How to Use
Eptoin 100 mg is usually taken twice daily, once in the morning and once in the evening. Your doctor may ask you to begin treatment with the best lowest dose. He may ask you to take Phenytoin once a day until your body gets adjusted to the medicine. Your doctor will work out the amount of phenytoin that suits your condition. The dose will be shown on the prescription, so read the prescription carefully, and follow the dosing regimen exactly as given on your prescription paper. Follow all directions on your prescription as well as diet restrictions (if any). Swallow the tablet, and do not crush, break it. You may need frequent blood tests, so it is important to visit your doctor regularly. Let your doctor know if this anti-convulsant drug does not work as well as in controlling your seizures. Do not discontinue the treatment, even if you feel fine. Sudden discontinuation may increase seizures.
