Description
Fosirol 3 mg sachet contains Fosfomycin tromethamine, a bactericidal antibiotic for oral administration. It is used only for treating acute cystitis (uncomplicated urinary tract infections) in women 18 years of age and older caused by Escherichia Coli. It works by killing bacteria, which are responsible for causing infections. Fosirol is used to treat or prevent infections of the urinary tract. It helps to improve the symptoms associated with urinary tract infections and cure the condition. The medicinal powder is not indicated for pyelonephritis or perinephric abscess treatment.
Product Description
— Fosirol should not be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to the drug. It should not be used in patients with severe renal insufficiency. Patients are undergoing haemofiltration, hemodialysis, or peritoneal dialysis.
— Do not use more than one dose of Fosirol to treat a single episode of acute cystitis. Repeated daily doses do not improve the condition but can increase the risk of side effects.
— Before using Fosirol, you should inform your doctor if you are allergic to antibiotics or have hepatic or renal insufficiency. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before using it. Avoid drinking alcohol and caffeinated drinks during the entire treatment. The drug may make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive or indulge in activities if these symptoms occur.
— When co-administered with Fosirol, metoclopramide is a drug which increases gastrointestinal motility and lowers the urinary excretion of Fosfomycin.
Side Effects
Diarrhoea is a common issue caused by antibiotics, which usually ends when the antibiotic drug is discontinued. Sometimes after starting treatment with antibiotics, patients can develop watery or bloody stools even as late as two or more months after taking the last antibiotic dose. Patients should talk to their doctor as soon as possible if this occurs.
How to Use
It is available as a single-dose sachet of white granules consisting of Fosfomycin tromethamine. The recommended dose for women 18 years of age and older for uncomplicated urinary tract infection is in one sachet of Fosirol. A single dose only of Fosirol should be used to treat an episode of acute cystitis. Repeated daily doses of this medicine did not improve the clinical success of single-dose therapy. It is recommended that Fosirol be taken on an empty stomach or at least 2 to 3 hours after a meal. Symptoms should improve two or three days after taking Fosirol; if not, the patient should speak to their doctor. Fosfomycin usually makes you feel better quite quickly. However, you should discontinue taking medicine as long as it is prescribed, even when you feel better, to ensure the bacteria are killed and do not become resistant.
Research studies have not established safety and effectiveness in children aged twelve years and under. In general, dosage selection for the elderly should be cautiously made. For more information about medical use, please contact your doctor.
