Description
Galvus 50 mg contains the active ingredient of the DPP-4 inhibitor vildagliptin, which is used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is often prescribed with diet and exercise to improve glycaemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It can be used:
— As monotherapy
— Combined with metformin, sulphonylurea, or a thiazolidinedione, diet, exercise, and a single antidiabetic agent fail to bring adequate glycaemic control.
— Combined with metformin and sulphonylurea, diet and exercise plus the above dual therapy with these agents do not adequately control blood sugar.
— In combination with insulin when diet, exercise and a stable dose of insulin do not adequately control blood sugar.
Product Description
Do not take Galvus 50 mg if you are allergic to Vildagliptin or any inactive medicine ingredient.
Talk to your doctor before taking this antidiabetic agent if you have type 1 diabetes, liver disease, heart failure, severe kidney disease, or pancreas disease.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to conceive, talk to your doctor for advice before taking medicine. You should avoid using the medicine during pregnancy; it is unknown if the medicines pass into breast milk. You should not use Vildagliptin if you are breastfeeding.
Side Effects
Some symptoms need immediate medical attention. You should discontinue treatment right away and inform your doctor if you develop any often following:
- A serious allergic reaction- symptoms include a swollen face, tongue or throat, difficulty breathing, sudden onset of rash or hives
- Liver disease-Symptoms include loss of appetite, dark-coloured urine, difficulty breathing, nausea, and yellow skin and eyes.
- Inflammation of the pancreas- Symptoms include persistent pain in the abdomen, which might reach through your back
Common side effects include headache, dizziness, nausea, low blood glucose weakness, weight increase, dizziness, excessive sweating, chills, and heartburn.
Talk to your doctor immediately if you get any of these side effects.
How to Use
The management of antidiabetic therapy should be individualized; thus, it is important to consult a doctor before using Galvus. The recommended dose of Galvus is 50 mg once or twice a day. The maximum dose should not exceed 100mg. The antidiabetic agent is not recommended in patients with hepatic impairment. No dose adjustment is required in patients with mild renal impairment. Diabetes medicine has not been studied in patients under 18; therefore, using Vildagliptin in pediatric patients is not recommended.
Vildagliptin is for use only. It can be administered before or after consuming food. The 50 mg dose should be administered once a day in the morning. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. A double dose should not be consumed on the same day.
The use of Vildagliptin in children and adolescents up to 18 years of age is not recommended. Let your doctor know if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines. Your doctor may wish to alter your dose if you are taking any of the medications:
- Thyroid medicines
- Thiazides or other diuretics
- Corticosteroids to treat inflammation
- Certain medications affect the nervous system
