Description
Januvia 50 mg is an oral diabetes medicine. It is very effective in controlling diabetes by controlling the sugar level. The drug is mostly recommended for type 2 diabetes mellitus alone or in combination with other medicines that cure diabetes. It is not recommended to treat type-1 diabetes. This drug is sold alone or in combination with metformin or Thiazolidinediones (other anti-hyperglycemic agents). The active ingredient of Januvia is Sitagliptin, which lowers high blood glucose (hyperglycemia). It increases insulin secretion and suppresses glucagon release from the pancreas. This drives the blood glucose levels to normal levels. As soon as the blood glucose levels become normal, the increased insulin and glucagon changes stop and further prevent hypoglycemia.
Product Description
— Do not take Januvia 50 mg if you are allergic to Sitagliptin or any of the ingredients of the medicine.
— Cases of inflammation of the pancreas have been reported in patients receiving Sitagliptin.
— If you develop blistering of the skin, it may be a sign of bullous pemphigoid.
Inform your doctor if you have or have ever had the following:
— Diabetic ketoacidosis (a complication of diabetes with high blood sugar, nausea, vomiting, and rapid weight loss).
— Any past or present kidney problems
— An allergic to Januvia 50 mg
— The medical condition can increase your chance of getting pancreatitis
— Type 1 diabetes
— A disease of the pancreas
Sitagliptin is unlikely to cause low blood sugar because it does not work when your blood glucose is low. However, when the medicine is combined with a sulphonylurea drug or insulin, low blood sugar can occur. To reduce this side effect, your doctor may reduce the dose of your sulphonylurea or insulin medicine.
Januvia is not recommended for children and adolescents below 18 years of age. It is ineffective in children and adolescents between the ages of 10 and 17. It is still unknown whether this antidiabetic agent is safe and effective when used in children younger than ten.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Januvia 50 mg include constipation, flu, swelling of the hands and legs, flatulence, headache, and low blood sugar. If you get any side effects, speak to your doctor. This includes possible side effects not listed in this information guide.
How to Use
The dosage of Januvia should be individualized based on the patient’s current regimen, effectiveness, and tolerability while not exceeding the recommended dose of 100 mg. Initial combination therapy or maintenance or combination therapy should be individualized. Januvia should generally be taken twice a day with meals. The starting dose should be based on the patient’s current condition. Your doctor will recommend the best dose to control your blood sugar.
If you have kidney disorders, your doctor may prescribe lower doses. You can take this medicine before or after consuming food. Your doctor may prescribe this medicine alone or with other medications that help lower blood sugar. Diet and exercise can help your body use its blood glucose better. It is important to stay on the diet and exercise regimen recommended by your doctor while taking Sitagliptin tablets.
Contact your doctor immediately if you take more tablets than the prescribed dosage. Continue to take medicine as long as your doctor prescribes it so you can help manage your sugar level. You should not discontinue the medicine without speaking to your doctor. Ask your doctor if you have further questions about this medicine’s use.
