Description
Mesacol CR 500 is an anti-inflammatory medication prescribed for treating bowel disease known as ulcerative colitis. The bowel disorder ulcerative colitis is a disease of the large intestine and rectum in which the lining of the bowel becomes red and swollen. This may lead to abdominal pain, frequent diarrhoea, and bleeding. It helps to reduce symptoms such as stomach pain and bleeding by reducing inflammation in the bowel. The medicine contains Mesalamine, which works by producing certain chemical substances such as prostaglandins that cause pain and swelling.

— Develop kidney stones while on treatment
You should not speak to your doctor before using Mesalamine tablets as there is limited information about their safety during pregnancy. Your doctor will only prescribe you this medicine if needed clearly after assessing the benefits over risks. The anti-inflammatory drug passes into breast milk in a small amount; hence you should consult your doctor.
You should always tell your doctor if you are taking other medicines, herbal formulations, or supplements to avoid interacting with Mesalamine tablets.
Be cautious while taking Mesacol CR tablets, other medicines used for rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease, or anticancer drugs. This medicine, when mused along with other medicines like blood thinners as these medicines may decrease the effect of warfarin.
Side Effects
Some people using Mesacol CR tablets may experience stomach pain, nausea, headache, vomiting, diarrhoea, or flatulence. How to Use
Take Mesacol as prescribed by the doctor. Swallow the medicine with a glass full of water. Avoid concomitant use of Mesacol with another anti-inflammatory drug without your doctor’s consent. Do not chew, crush, or break the tablet. You need to take this medicine to get the maximum benefits and drink plenty of water to ensure you stay hydrated.
You recommend using it for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you based on the medical condition. If you stop treatment too early, your symptoms may return, and your condition worsens.
Seek immediate urgent medical help if you feel that you have too many of these tablets. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double up the dose to compensate for the missed one.
