Description
Monocef 500 mg contains Ceftriaxone, which belongs to the cephalosporin class of antibiotics used to treat bacterial infections in your body. It effectively treats infections of the brain (meningitis), lungs (pneumonia, chronic bronchitis), blood, heart, ear, urinary tract, skin and soft tissues. Monocef can also treat specific sexually transmitted infections (gonorrhoea and syphilis) and Lyme disease. It also helps to prevent infections during surgery.
Monocef 500 mg works by stopping the growth of infection-causing bacteria in your body. It usually makes you feel better within a few days. Use it under the supervision of your doctor to get maximum benefit.
Product Description
Administration of Monocef is contraindicated in case of an allergic reaction towards Ceftriaxone. It must not be used in case of serious allergic reactions to penicillin or similar antibiotics. Speak to your doctor before taking Monocef injection if you have/had received calcium-containing products recently, had diarrhoea after using antibiotics, kidney stones, inflammation of the bowel, or any other illness. Avoid taking antacids along with ceftriaxone injection. If you need to take it, ensure a 2 to 3 hours gap between both.
Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. The medicine may cause dizziness; therefore, be cautious while driving or indulging in a task that requires you to be alert. Do not consume alcohol while receiving Ceftriaxone injection. Tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines. In particular, let your doctor know if you are taking an antibiotic called aminoglycoside or chloramphenicol used to treat an eye infection.
Side Effects
The most common side effects of Monocef include rash, diarrhoea and changes in liver function and blood cell counts. Some people may develop redness or pain at the site of injection. This may be temporary and resolved within a few days. Consult your doctor if they persist for a longer duration or become bothersome.
Rarely a severe allergic reaction may happen with this medicine. If you have a severe allergic reaction, tell your doctor right away. The signs of a severe allergic reaction include sudden swelling of the face/lips/throat, making it difficult for you to breathe. Sudden swelling of the hands, ankles, and feet. Immediately visit your new arrest medical centre if you develop signs of serious allergic reactions.
How to Use
Monocef injection can be administered intravenously or intramuscularly. Your doctor will decide on the correct dose of ceftriaxone injection. The dose of the medicine usually depends on the severity and the type of bacterial infection. Also, it is important to tell your doctor about any other antibiotic you are using or if you have any liver or kidney dysfunction. The number of days or weeks you are given Monocef injection depends on your infection type. Your doctor will make the injection, and it should not be mixed with or given to you at the same time as a calcium-containing injection.
