Description
Montair 5 mg chewable tablets are prescription medicine available for the treatment for asthma and allergic rhinitis. It contains Montelukast sodium as an active ingredient, which improves symptoms of asthma and allergic rhinitis by blocking activity of substances in the body called leukotrienes. Montelukast sodium may be used for the long-term treatment of asthma in adults and children ages two years and older. It is also helpful in preventing asthma episodes. The medicine does not treat a sudden asthma attack; therefore, it should not be taken to get relief right away from a sudden asthma attack. In case you get a sudden asthma attack, you should follow the instructions your physician gave on for managing asthma attacks. Montair 5 mg or Singulair (another brand of Montelukast) prevents exercise-induced asthma in people 15 years of age and older. In case of allergic rhinitis, Singulair helps control symptoms of allergic rhinitis including runny nose, sneezing, itching of the nose, and stuffy nose. The chewable tablets are beneficial in treating seasonal as well as perennial allergies in adults and children ages two years and older.
Product Description
Take Montair 5 mg chewable tablets exactly as prescribed by your physician. Your physician will tell you how much tablets to take and when to take it. Do not make any changes in your dosing regimen without discussing with your physician. One can take the tablet before or after consuming meals. If your child misses a dose, give the next dose at the prescribed time. Do not give two doses to compensate for the missed one. If you consume too much Montelukast tablets, call your physician right away for advice. The general recommended dose of Montelukast for adults and children two years of age and older is tablet a day in the evening. For patients who are15 years of age and older, the recommended dose for the prevention of exercise-induced asthma is one chewable tablet at least two hours before exercise. For patients with allergic rhinitis, one tablet a day is sufficient to treat the symptoms.
Side Effects
Montair 5 mg tablets may cause common side effects, which may include diarrhea, cough, runny nose, headache, sinus infection, fever, stomach pain, sore throat, upper respiratory tract infection, earache, flu and fever. Other side effects with chewable Montelukast sodium include low blood platelet count, increased bleeding tendency, palpitations, stuffy nose, indigestion, heartburn, inflammation of the pancreas, vomiting, and nosebleed. A severe allergic reaction may also occur, which includes symptoms like trouble breathing, itching, hives, trouble breathing, or swallowing. Tell your physician if you are allergic to aspirin or have any other medical conditions.
How to Use
Montair chewable tablets 5 mg is used:
- To prevent asthma attacks For treatment (long-term) of asthma in adults and children ages two years of age and older>
- To avoid symptoms of asthma developed due to exercise in people 15 years of age and older
- To control symptoms of allergic rhinitis such as the stuffy nose, sneezing, itching of the nose, stuffy, and runny nose.
