Description
Mysoline 250 mg is prescribed to control of various types of convulsions or epileptic seizures. Primidone, the active ingredient is often used in combination with other anti-convulsant or anti-seizure medications. The medicine is categorized as an anti-convulsant drug, also called an anti-epileptic drug. It controls convulsions (epileptic seizures). Primidone is sold under various trade names, some of which are Myidone and Mysoline (Valeant Pharmaceuticals). This medication may also be used for conditions not mentioned here. Primidone blocks the voltage dependent and calcium channels and restores the normal balance in brain. It decreases the pain induced by neurons.
Product Description
Do not take the drug if you are allergic to this active ingredient Primidone or any other ingredient of the drug, are pregnant or planning to be pregnant, or are breastfeeding as the drug may pass into the breast milk. Also, tell your doctor if you have high blood pressure, past episodes of depression or suicidal thoughts, a history of seizures, the condition like lupus, liver disease, diabetes, deficiency of vitamin D, porphyria, or have allergy to other anticonvulsant drugs.
Certain drugs can interact with Primidone. Inform your doctor about any medications (prescribed, OTC, or herbal products) which you may be using already before he or she prescribes you Primidone. Never start a new medication on your own without proper medical help.
Side Effects
Primidone usage may lead to suicidal thoughts. This side effect may require you to undergo regular follow up checks by your doctor. You must notify your doctor about any new or deteriorating symptoms like mood or behaviour changes, depression, anxiety, suicidal or self-hurting thoughts, increased agitation, hostility, restlessness, hyperactivity (mentally or physically). Your family member and caregivers if any must be on alert for these conditions. You may experience some side effects in the initial days of taking Primidone as your body adjusts to it. They are dizziness, drowsiness, excitation, tiredness, headache, appetite loss, nausea, or vomiting. Seek emergency medical attention if any of these effects continue for a long time or deteriorate for the worst. Primidone usage may lead to suicidal thoughts. How to Use
Take Primidone anti-convulsant medication (Mysoline) strictly according to your doctor’s direction or according to the instructions on the medication label. Do not alter the dosage unless your doctor advises you to do so. Also, do not take this medication after the prescribed period is over. All medications come with a patient leaflet. Refer the instructions in them for detailed information on the medication. Primidone is normally taken 2 to 4 times daily depending upon the seriousness of your condition. Avoid crushing, breaking, or chewing a Phenytoin tablet as doing so may lead to too much of the medicine to be release at once. Instead swallow it whole. You must ensure to drink plenty of fluids while taking this medication. Always store Primidone anti-convulsant medication in a cool and dry place. Do not alter the dosage unless your doctor advises you to do so. You must continue taking Primidone even after you do not get seizures and feel absolutely fine. Stopping the medication suddenly and without doctor’s advice may result in increased seizures deteriorating your condition. Remember to follow your doctor’s instructions.
