    Generic Name Risedronate

    Description

Risofos 35 mg is used to treat bone disease; it directly impacts your bone, making them stronger and less likely to break or fracture. Once a weak Risofos tablet effectively treats osteoporosis (fragile or brittle bones that may be more likely to break). It also treats osteoporosis caused by taking steroids. It contains the active ingredient Risedronate, a class of medications known as bisphosphonates, which works by slowing down the process of removing old bones. This allows the bone-forming cells to rebuild normal bone.

Risofos 35 mg also rebuilds bone mass, creating stronger bones which is less likely to fracture. Therefore, Risofos can help reverse the progression of osteoporosis.

    Product Description

Do not give Risofos to children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Also, avoid taking if:

    — You have an allergy to Risedronate or any other ingredients of the medicine.

    — You cannot understand or sit upright for at least half an hour.

    — You have a condition called hypoglycaemia (a low level of calcium in the bloodstream)

Do not take Risedronate if you are pregnant. The medicine is not recommended during pregnancy unless you and your doctor have discussed the risks and benefits. Do not take this medicine if you are breastfeeding. It is still not known whether the medication passes into breast milk. Inform your doctor if you have had many medical problems before taking this medicine. Do not take Risedronate to treat any other complaints unless your doctor tells you to.

    Side Effects

Medicines like Risofos may cause problems in your oesophagus (the tube that joins the mouth and the stomach), stomach and intestines, including ulcers if you have pain upon swallowing, black/bloody stools, chest pain, and heartburn. Stop taking the medication and tell your doctor straight away.

In clinical studies, the most commonly reported side effects were heartburn, nausea, and stomach pain. Risedronate may cause pain in joints, muscles, or bones. The pain usually begins as soon as one day or up to several months after starting the medication. Rarely have patients reported unusual fractures in their thigh bone while receiving bisphosphonates. Speak to your doctor if you experience new or unusual pain in your thigh, hip, or groin.

    How to Use

For osteoporosis, the usual dose is one Risofos 35 mg once a week. Follow all the directions given to you by your doctor. If you do not understand the instructions on your prescription, ask your doctor for help. Take your Risedronate tablet in the morning, at least half an hour before your first meal, drink, or medication. The medicine works best when your stomach is empty. Take the tablet while sitting or standing upright. Do not lie down immediately after swallowing the pill. This will help ensure the medicine reaches your stomach quickly and helps avoid irritation to your oesophagus. Swallow your pill with a glass full of water. This oral medication should be taken each week. Choose a day of the week that is appropriate for you. Continue taking medicine for as long as your doctor suggests it.
