Description
Desowen lotion 0.05% (30ml) is a corticosteroid prescribed for treating mild to moderate atopic dermatitis in patients of age and older. It helps to relieve itching, redness, and swelling caused due to the inflammatory reaction in the affected part of the body. The lotion contains the active ingredient Desonide, which works by activating natural substances in the skin to reduce, itching and swelling. Patients should be instructed to use Desonide lotion under the supervision of a dermatologist.
Product Description
Desowen lotion is for topical use only. It is not for oral, ophthalmic, or intravaginal use. Use it as directed by your doctor. Avoid contact with eyes. The medicine should not be used for any disorder other than the prescribed medication. Unless directed by the doctor, the treated skin area should not be bandaged or otherwise wrapped with a dressing. Unless directed by a doctor, the topical formulation should not be used on the underarm or groin of pediatric patients.
Parents of pediatric patients should be advised not to use Desowen to treat diaper dermatitis.
Patients should report to their doctor any signs of local reaction.
Desowen lotion is contraindicated in those patients with a history of hypersensitivity to any of the components of the formulation.
Do not apply directly on the face. Place in hands and gently massage the affected areas of the face. Avoid applying near your eyes and lips. Make sure you wash your hands after each use.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Desowen lotion include headache, cough, increased blood pressure, upper respiratory tract infections, increased blood pressure, and a burning sensation when you apply the solution. Tell your doctor if you have any side effects that trouble you or do not resolve. These are not possible side effects of Desowen lotion. Ask your doctor for more information about the medicine’s side effects.
How to Use
Use Desowen lotion exactly as prescribed. Do not use more than the recommended amount to cover the affected areas. Do not get the medication in your eyes, mouth, and vagina. The lotion is applied to the affected skin areas twice daily. Speak to your doctor if your skin does not improve after using it for four weeks. You should not use the topical product for more than four weeks without speaking to your doctor.
Other products containing corticosteroids should not be used with Desowen without first consulting with the doctor.
As with other corticosteroids, therapy should be discontinued when control is achieved. Contact your doctor if no improvement is seen with regular usage for four weeks.
Apply a thin layer to the affected areas twice daily and rub in gently. Therapy should be discontinued when adequate control is achieved. If no improvement is seen within four weeks, a reassessment of the diagnosis may be necessary. The lotion should not be used for occlusive dressing. Topical therapy beyond four consecutive weeks is not recommended.
