Description
Monocef 1 gm contains the active ingredient Ceftriaxone, an antibiotic given to adults and children to treat infections of the brain, lungs, middle ear, blood, heart, kidneys, urinary tract, bones and joints, skin or soft tissues and the abdomen. It can be used under the following conditions:
— Specific sexually transmitted infections (gonorrhoea and syphilis)
— Patients with low white blood cell counts who have fever due to an infection caused by the bacteria
— Chest infection in adults with chronic bronchitis
— Lyme disease in adults and children, including newborn babies who are 25 days of age
— To prevent the occurrence of infections during surgery
Ceftriaxone belongs to the class of medications known as which works by killing bacteria responsible for causing infections.
Product Description
You must not be using Monocef 1 gm in the following cases:
— Allergic to Monocef or any of its ingredients
— Severe allergic reaction to penicillin or similar antibiotics (such as carbapenems, cephalosporins, or monobactams). The symptoms include sudden swelling of the throat or face, which makes it tough for you to breathe or swallow, the rash that appears rapidly, and the sudden swelling of the hands, feet, and ankles.
— Allergic to lidocaine, and you should be given Monocef as an injection into a muscle.
Monocef must not be administered to babies if the baby is premature, has certain blood problems or jaundice or is to be administered a product that contains calcium into their vein.
Speak to your doctor before you are given Monocef if any of the following applies to you:
— Recently had diarrhoea after having an antibiotic medicine
— Liver or kidney problems
— Inflammation of the bowels
— Taking low-sodium diet
— Gallstones or kidney stones
— Other illnesses include haemolytic anaemia (a decrease in red blood cells that may make your skin pale and cause breathing issues and weakness).
Side Effects
Common side effects of Monocef 1 gm include:
— Abnormalities with your white blood cells
— Rash
— Loose stools and diarrhoea
— Changes in the results of blood tests for liver function
Talk to your doctor if you develop side effects that persist or become bothersome.
How to Use
Monocef can be administered as a drip or injection directly into a vein or muscle. The doctor will determine the correct dose of injection for you. The dose depends on the severity and type of infection, whether you are using any other antibiotic, your weight and age, and how well your liver and kidney work. The length of the treatment depends on what sort of infection you have.
Your doctor may give you a higher dose if you have a severe infection. If your daily dose is higher than 2 g, you may receive it as a single dose once daily or as two separate doses.
In newborns, the dose depends on the severity and type of infection. The recommended dose is comparatively lower than that of adults, older people and children.
