    Oxitan 50 mg/10ml is a prescription treatment for the cancer of the large bowel. It is used in combination with other anticancer drugs such as infusional 5-fluorouracil and leucovorin as the combination is considered effective in lowering the chance of colon cancer returning when given to patients with stage III colon cancer after the removal of tumour via surgery. The medicine contains the active substance Oxiplatin, which increases survival in patients with stage II colon cancer. Oxiplatin shrinks tumours and delays the growth of cancer cells in some patients with advanced colorectal cancer. This anticancer drug is available as a solution for infusion and must be dissolved and made into a solution before it can be injected intravenously.

    Product Description

    You should inform your health care expert, if you are allergic to any medicines, or have moderate to severe kidney problems. Talk to your health care specialist before taking aspirin, aspirin-containing products, vitamins or herbal medicines. Hydrate yourself, drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water a day. If you or your partner become pregnant while taking Oxiplatin, talk to your health care professional. Use birth control measures during cancer treatment. Once the treatment is over, discuss when to discontinue birth control measures with your health care provider. You may experience nausea and vomiting, take the anti-nauseatic drug as directed by your health care specialist. Usually, there are 14 days between each treatment course of chemotherapy. The dose you receive will also depend on results of blood tests and whether you have earlier experienced side effects of Oxitan solution for infusion.

    Side Effects

    One of the most common side effects of Oxitan 50 mg/10ml includes decreased blood counts. This anti-cancer drug can cause a decrease in white blood cells that are essential in fighting bacterial infections, red blood cells that carry oxygen to the tissues, and platelets that control bleeding. Other common side effects include high blood pressure, infection, vomiting, tiredness, diarrhea, bleeding, decreased appetite, mouth sores, stomach pain, hair loss, dehydration, etc. Call your health care specialist if you have signs of dehydration, including thirst, decreased urination, dry mouth, tiredness, and light-headedness. Tell your health care professional if you have side effects that become troublesome or does not go away.

    How to Use

    Oxitan 50 mg/10ml is given to you through your veins. Your health care specialist will prescribe the amount that is right for you. The dosage is based on the condition and severity of symptoms. Your health care specialist will treat you with several medicines to prevent cancer growth. You must do exactly what your health care specialist says. Your health care provider may ask you to take some medicines before Oxitan to help prevent nausea and vomiting. You may have to take Oxiplatin with two chemotherapy medicines, namely leucovorin and 5 fluorouracil. Usually, each treatment course is given to you over two days. You will have to take Oxiplatin 50mg/10ml on the first day only.
