Description
Pirox 20 mg contains the active ingredient Piroxicam, which belongs to a group of medicines known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). This means it will help relieve pain, redness, swelling, and inflammation in the affected joints. Pirox is prescribed to treat symptoms caused by osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis (rheumatism of the spine). NSAIDs do not cure arthritis and will only help you if you continue to take them.
Product Description
— Do not take Pirox 20 mg capsules if you are allergic to Piroxicam, other NSAIDs, or other medications.
— Avoid taking Piroxicam capsules if you take NSAIDs such as celecoxib, ibuprofen, and acetylsalicylic acid.
— Piroxicam should not be taken if you have had or currently have a stomach or intestinal ulcer, bleeding, or perforation.
— Do not take an NSAID if you have a history of stomach or intestinal disorders such as Crohn’s disease, gastrointestinal cancers, diverticulitis, and ulcerative colitis.
— If you are trying to become pregnant or receiving treatment for fertility, withdrawal of PIrox capsules should be considered. NSAID capsules may increase the risk of miscarriage in early pregnancy.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Pirox 20 mg are headache, anorexia, dizziness, increased blood sugar levels, vertigo, and changes in blood cells, which may increase the risk of infection and blood sugar levels. Most of these side effects are temporary and do not resolve within a few days. Stop taking piroxicam capsules and contact your doctor straight away if you have the following:
- An allergic reaction. The symptoms include asthma or worsening asthma, difficulty breathing, irregular raised patches with severe itching, serious sickness, and swelling of the face, lips, throat, and tongue.
- Liver disease. Symptoms include weight loss, fever, abdominal pain, inflammation of the liver, loss of appetite
- Kidney disorder
- Indigestion or heartburn
- Hallucinations
- Inflamed pancreas
If you develop any side effects, tell your doctor immediately and discontinue treatment.
How to Use
Pirox comes in the form of capsules. Each capsule contains 20 mg of Piroxicam for oral administration. Always take Piroxicam capsules exactly as your doctor has told you. Check with your doctor if you are not sure. Your doctor will regularly check to ensure you take the optimal dose of Pirox capsules. Your doctor will adjust your treatment to the lowest dose that best suits you. Under no circumstances do you change your dose without talking to your doctor. Swallow the capsules whole with a glass full of water. It is best to take the capsule with food or soon after eating.
The maximum recommended dose is 20 mg once daily. If you are older than 70 years, your doctor may be asked to reduce the dosage and duration of treatment. Always speak to your dose if you feel the medication is ineffective in relieving symptoms. Do not increase e the dose by yourself.
