Description
Sazo EN contains sulfasalazine, 500 mg, for oral administration. It is a type of drug known as a disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug (DMARD) that reduces pain, inflammation and swelling in your joints and may reduce the progression of your joint diseases. The anti-inflammatory drug effectively treats rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and arthritis related to inflammatory bowel diseases.
— In the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis – Sulfasalazine helps treat pain and swelling by decreasing the immune response of the patient.
— In treating ulcerative colitis – Ulcerative colitis causes the bowel to become red and swollen. It may lead to abdominal pain, bleeding, and frequent diarrhoea. Sazo EN helps you stay well and prevent a recurrence.
— In treating Crohn’s disease – Crohn’s disease is a chronic inflammatory disease of the intestine. It commonly causes diarrhoea and pain in your abdomen. Sulfasalazine reduces inflammation and relieves these symptoms.
— In treating Ankylosing spondylitis – Ankylosing spondylitis is a rare type of arthritis that particularly affects larger joints such as the spine. It usually starts in your lower back and can spread to your neck. An anti-inflammatory drug like SAZO EN reduces stiffness and swelling in your spine and joints. In reducing these symptoms, Sulfasalazine helps improve flexibility and prevents disease progression.
Sazo EN does not work immediately. It takes up to 1 to 3 months before you observe that your symptoms are getting better.
Product Description
You won’t get Sazo EN 500 mg tablets if you are allergic to any ingredient present in it or are allergic to salicylates or antibiotics such as sulfonamides. You may not be a suitable candidate for Sulfasalazine if you have significant problems with your kidney or liver or have porphyria (a rare pigment disorder). Before you are given Sazo EN, you will have blood tests (checking for white blood cell count, anaemia, liver, and kidney function). You will also continue to have these while taking medicine.
Side Effects
Sulfasalazine’s most common side effects are nausea, vomiting, anorexia, gastric distress, and low sperm count. Less frequent side effects are skin rash, fever, urticaria, pruritus, haemolytic anaemia, or bluish skin discolouration (cyanosis). Sazo EN may change the colour of urine to orange but do not worry, as the side effect is temporary. It can also stain tears and contact lenses yellow. The anti-rheumatic drug is not thought to increase the risk of infection unless it causes the rare side effect of low white blood cells. If the side effect improves and the medicine is helping your symptoms, your doctor may be able to increase your dose after a while. However, you will need to stop the medicine if you develop severe side effects, talk to your doctor for more information.
How to Use
Swallow Sazo EN 500 mg tablet whole with a glass of water. Don’t break, crush or chew the tablet. You can take it before or after consuming food. Your doctor will recommend you the correct dose. Sazo EN usually starts with the lowest possible dose, slowly increasing each week. The recommended dose is two tablets, 500 mg each twice daily, but this can vary, depending on why you have been using it and how well it works for you. Because it is a long-term treatment, it is important to keep taking Sulfasalazine even if your symptoms begin to improve to help control your condition.
