Description
Tiger balm is a topical product that temporarily relieves minor muscle aches, pains, stiffness and strains. You apply it to the area that is in pain, which is well absorbed through the skin. It works as an analgesic that helps alleviate pain by numbing the skin. The product contains several active and inactive ingredients, which include:
— Methyl salicylate – It acts as an analgesic, which works by numbing the skin
— Menthol – It helps restrict blood vessels, which reduces inflammation and provides a cooling sensation.
— Camphor – It enhances blood circulation and induces cool or warm sensations in the skin.
Other ingredients or essential oils such as:
— Cajuput oil is extracted from cajuput trees to relieve toothaches and headaches in some cultures.
— Clove oil helps ease toothaches.
— Cassia oil comes from the bark of the Cinnamomum cassia plant and induces an anti-inflammatory effect.
— Demetholized mint oil extracted from the peppermint plant has been used as an effective topical treatment for pain.
Tiger balm is generally applied to relieve deep pain, such as musculoskeletal pain. It has also been used to treat superficial pain, such as the pain of shingles. However, the product can’t be applied to open wounds. For example – shingles cause blisters that break the skin and prevent it from crusting. These are considered open wounds; hence Tiger balm should not be applied to them.
The product is applied topically on the skin and can be used when pain arises. Most people apply it 2-3 times a day when pain reoccurs. Normally, it relieves pain within 10 to 20 minutes. You should check with a healthcare expert if you wish to use it with another topical pain reliever because the combination may irritate the skin.
Tiger balm should not enter in your eyes, nose, ear canals, vagina or rectum.
