    Generic For Tobradex
    Generic Name Tobramycin and Dexamethasone
    SKU: sku853 Categories: ,

    Description

Toba DM 3 mg and 1 mg is an ophthalmic antibiotic formulation for topical therapy of external ophthalmic infections caused by susceptible bacteria. Each ml contains Tobramycin 3 mg and 1 mg Dexamethasone. Tobramycin is an antibacterial medicine which provides action against susceptible bacteria. Whereas Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid that suppresses the inflammatory response to various agents, and they can delay or promote healing. Together, they form Toba DM, which stops the growth of bacteria and helps in receiving redness, itching, and swelling associated with the bacterial eye infection. Appropriate monitoring of bacterial response to the antibiotic treatment should accompany the use of this combination ophthalmic drug.

    Product Description

Sensitivity to topically applied aminoglycosides may develop in some patients. The severity of hypersensitivity reactions may vary from the local effects of generalized reactions such as itching, erythema, urticaria, skin rash, and anaphylaxis. If a sensitivity reaction to this combination of ophthalmic preparation occurs, discontinue use. As with another ophthalmic corticosteroid, Toba DM is contraindicated in most viral disorders of the cornea, and conjunctiva, including vaccinia, epithelial herpes simplex keratitis, and varicella and bacterial infection of the eye and fungal disorders of ocular structures.

    • Toba DM should not be used if the patient is hypersensitive to any medication components.
    • Long term usage of corticosteroids may result in glaucoma that comes with damage to the optic nerve and defects in the vision. If this ophthalmic formulation is used for longer than a week, your doctor may monitor you for intraocular pressure.
    • The use of Toba DM may result in cataract formation.
    • After cataract surgery may delay healing and likely develop the incidence of bleb formation (a small blister in the skin). In those eye disorders causing thinning of the cornea, perforations have been known to occur with the use of Tobramycin/Dexamethasone formulation.

    Side Effects

Side effects have occurred with Toba DM, which can be attributed to Tobramycin, Dexamethasone, or the combination. The most frequent side effects are localized toxicity, including lid itching, swelling, and conjunctival erythema. If they persist or get worse, inform your doctor.

    How to Use

Make sure you use Toba DM only in the affected eye. Instil one drop into the conjunctival sac every 4 to 6 hours. Your ophthalmologist may increase your dose after this. The frequency of application should be decreased gradually as improvement in clinical signs is visible. Avoid sudden or premature discontinuation of the therapy. Not more than 20 ml of the medicine should be prescribed initially, and the ophthalmic prescription should not be refilled without further evaluation.

    Usage instructions:

    • Apply a small amount of the ophthalmic solution into the conjunctival sac three to four times a day.
    • Tilt your back for application, and place a small drop of Toba D solution into the affected eye(s).
    • Don’t let the tip of the dropper touch your eye.
    • Close your eyes for a while.

If you have any doubt related to the usage of Toba DM, please talk to your ophthalmologist.
