Description
Volibo M 0.3/500 mg is a combination of two antidiabetic medicines for treating type 2 diabetes in adults. It is used to control blood sugar levels in people with diabetes. Volibo M, the combination of voglibose and Metformin, is indicated as a second-line therapy for treating Type 2 diabetes when diet, exercise, and treatment with single antidiabetic agents do not control blood sugar levels.
Voglibose delays glucose (sugar) absorption, breaking complex sugars into simple sugars such as glucose. This prevents the rise of blood glucose levels immediately after meals. Metformin reduces glucose levels without increasing insulin secretion. It is also called an insulin sensitizer as it increases the effects of insulin hormones. Metformin is unique as it does not cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar levels).
Product Description
Before and during treatment with Volibo M, your doctor may evaluate you for kidney function frequently to avoid the risk of side effects, especially if you are elderly with poor renal function. Avoid consuming alcohol during the treatment as it could worsen your health and make you more likely to develop lactic acidosis (lactic acid build-up in the bloodstream). The antidiabetic agent is not recommended for use in pregnant or breastfeeding women and children due to a lack of clinical evidence on the safety and effectiveness of the drug. It should be used cautiously in elderly patients aged 65 years or above.
Before starting this combination of medicine, let your doctor know if you have a medical history of anaemia, heart problems, seizures, and liver disorders. However, when used with antidiabetic agents like insulin or sulfonylureas, it can cause episodes of hypoglycemia (deficiency of glucose in the blood). Voglibose/Metformin may interact with anti-depressants (phenelzine, selegiline, isocarboxazid), anti-inflammatory agents (phenylbutazone, prednisolone), medicine to treat high blood pressure (metoprolol, propranolol), and corticosteroids.
Side Effects
The most common side effects of taking Volibo M are vomiting, diarrhoea, nausea, headache, dizziness, and stomach pain. Although not everyone develops these side effects, if they become bothersome, seek immediate medical attention.
How to Use
Take Volibo M 0.3/500 mg as advised by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass full of water. Do not chew or crush the tablet. The dose will be decided as per the patient’s blood sugar levels. The patient’s condition should be assessed before initiation of treatment with this combination of antidiabetic medicine at least a year after that. In patients with an increased risk of progression of kidney insufficiency and the elderly over 65, kidney function should be assessed more frequently every three months.
